Transporting and registering medical equipment: common pitfalls.
Transportation of medical equipment to Russia and its proper customs registration is a difficult and responsible task. Our country is very interested in the field, which is why it is trying in every way to stimulate the area through introducing benefits and reducing customs fees. Hence, the state exercises tight supervision over the area.
Difficulties may arise starting from the moment of transporting medical equipment to proper customs registration in compliance with the Russian law.
Only a proven carrier and licensed customs representative included in the Register and knowing all ins and outs of the legislation, can be entrusted with such shipping and registration.
Any mishandling on the part of the customs representative may lead to extra expenses on cargo storage and extra customs fees.
In general, the procedure of customs registration for medical equipment is practically identical to registering ordinary goods:
- Preparing comprehensive document package;
- Checking the documents at customs;
- Releasing the cargo for internal consumption.
The most important and main difference in registering medical equipment is VAT payment benefit introduced for goods imported in the EEU territory. The benefit size is determined by the Tax Code of Russia and inventories given in the government decrees.
